Mrs. Dorothy L. Cravey

March 30, 1941 - May 16, 2022

Hawkinsville - Mrs. Dorothy L. Cravey, age 81, of Cochran passed away peacefully Monday, May 16, 2022, at Taylor Regional Hospital surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at 2:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church of Cochran with Dr. Reed Crumbliss, Rev. Jay Moore, and Rev. Clyde Evans officiating. Interment will be private in Pulaski Bleckley Memorial Gardens. The family will meet friends following the service Wednesday at the church. Mrs. Cravey, affectionately known as Mrs. Dot to all who knew her, was the daughter of the late Morgan Brannen Lanier and Ester Lacy Lanier. She was born March 30, 1941 in Augusta, Georgia. She attended Richmond Academy and was a member of the 1959 high school graduating class. Following high school, she attended Georgia Baptist Hospital School of Nursing, graduating as a registered nurse in 1962. She started her nursing career at Talmadge Memorial Hospital in Augusta. In 1965 she married the love of her life, Mr. Gene Cravey, and they moved to Cochran. Once in Cochran, Mrs. Dot served as the Director of Nursing at Bryant Nursing Home. In 1969 Bleckley Memorial Hospital opened, Mr. Ross Borders was hired as the hospital’s administrator and first employee and Mrs. Dot was hired as the second employee and Director of Nursing. Later in her career, she transitioned to Taylor Memorial, where she worked in Utilization Review and Discharge Services. Anyone who knew Mrs. Dot knew that she loved being a nurse and caring for the people of Bleckley County. Mrs. Dot Cravey was a charter member of the Cochran Pilot Club and a member of Cochran First Baptist Church. Left to cherish her memories are husband, C. Eugene Cravey of Cochran; daughter, Michele Cravey Dyal and her husband Robert of Cochran; son, Brannen Lanier Cravey and his wife Melanie of Cochran; grandchildren, Mallory Dyal Veal and her husband John Andrew of Bonaire, Emily Dyal Hauesler and her husband Dakota of Bonaire, Braegan Cravey of Cochran; sister, Brenda Lanier Struman and her husband Warren of Alvin, Texas.; sister in-law, Eunice Nobles and her husband Eugene of Cochran, and several loving nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Mrs. Dorothy’s name to: Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) c/o Bleckley County High School 155 GA-87, Cochran, GA 31014 or, 1 Royal Drive, Cochran, GA 31014. The family is at the residence of Robert and Michele Dyal on John Benson Road.
