J.W. MADDOX

August 31, 1934 - September 18, 2016

Funeral services for J.W. Maddox, 82, who died Sunday, September 18, 2016 at his residence, will be held Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Fisher Funeral Home with the Elder Franklin Bryant and Dr. Jerry Walls officiating. Burial will be in Pulaski-Bleckley Memorial Gardens. J.W. was born in Bleckley County to the late Isaac Edward and Leila Mae Kitchens Maddox. He attended school in Bleckley County, was the former owner of Lakeview TrueValue and RadioShack, and the owner of Maddox Glass Company. He was a 35-year member and past Worshipful Master of the Cochran Masonic Lodge F&AM #217, a Scottish Rite, a member of the Bleckley County Sportsman Club, and Red Barn Spinners Square Dancing Club. He was of Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Susan Maddox, Mary Norfleet, Clara Parr, and Roberta Kight and a brother, Bernard "Pete" Maddox. Survivors include: wife of 60 years, Grace Rowland Maddox of Cochran; sons, Terry Maddox and Ricky (Mary) Maddox, both of Cochran; 2 daughters, Donna (Lynn) Hardy of Eastman and Sondra (Lee) Leatherwood of Cochran; 6 grandchildren; Ashley Brown, Carmen (Craig) Pearce, Dana (Chris) Brown, Tyler R. Maddox, Jonathan W. Leatherwood, and MaKenzie G. Leatherwood; 5 great-grandchildren, Ryan Brown, Ansley Brown, Emma Pearce, Harper Brown, Briley Brown; 2 brothers, Joe (Rita) Maddox of Oxford, and Herman Maddox of Eastman; a sister, Betty McElheney of Eatonton; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in law, Joyce (Bobby) Cannon, of Chester, Faye Peggy Rowland, Betty (Wayne) Rogers, Carolyn (Bob) Rozar, JoAnn Lucas, Carolyn M. Long, and George S. Kight, Sr., all of Cochran. Family will be at the residence of Ricky Maddox, Tenth Street, Cochran, and will meet friends on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Fisher Funeral Home of Cochran has charge of arrangements.
