Mr. Patrick Fletcher Milligan
August 14, 1972 - October 7, 2021
On October 7, 2021 in Taos, NM, we lost the character of all characters. Born August 14, 1972 in Cochran, GA, Patrick Fletcher Milligan was known as a man with a big heart, an infectious, goofy laugh, and a just-roll-with-it attitude. He had a special kind of magic with animals and babies, and was absolutely bursting with creative energy. He wowed us with eye-catching tie-dyes, intricate crochet designs, making (and playing) African drums, colorful blown glass, psychedelic fractals, and an alarming dexterity in all 9 and a half fingers. Whip smart and mischievous as the day is long, he had a knack for getting into trouble and wiggling his way back out with irresistible charm, irreverent humor, and cunning wit. A Diehard-Deadhead-turned-Phish-Phanatic, Patrick felt a strong connection to his favorite musicians—touring the country alongside both the Grateful Dead and Phish as often as he could, and becoming a familiar and much-loved face on Shakedown Streets from coast to coast with his vibrant tie-dyes and crochet creations. At his core, Patrick was a generous, peace-loving guy—always the first to step forward to help a friend or even a stranger in need, giving whatever he could. Never one to be defeated by obstacles like chronic back pain or limited resources, Patrick was a true wizard at using what he had to construct breath-taking, one-of-a-kind gifts, forge creative solutions to seemingly unsolvable problems, and befriend and learn from strangers who knew things he didn’t. He was the kind of guy who wouldn’t hesitate to invite a casual passerby to join a drum circle and find a drum for them to learn on. His father, Michael, still prizes the expertly-crafted djembe that Patrick made for him while living in Utah. Patrick is survived by son, Jeffrey Milligan, daughter, Sunshine Milligan, father, Michael Milligan, brother, Christopher Milligan, sister, Maggie Milligan, stepmother, Katherine January, stepfather, Michael Hatcher, and beloved dog, Mafia. Patrick had a special bond with his mother, Virginia Hatcher, who preceded him in death. He loved his family home in Cochran, GA; one of his great joys was sharing “The Farm” with his children, and it seems only right that his final resting place should be by the creek. After a Farewell Tour of memorials in Taos, NM, Bountiful, UT, and Cochran, GA, his ashes will lay to rest on the banks of the creek he loved. Memorial service in Cochran, Georgia will be Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 11am in Trinity Episcopal Church Cochran. Internment/Spreading of Ashes will be private for the family only. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Patrick's name to the St James Food Pantry in Taos, NM http://www.stjamestaos.com Rest easy, Patrick. We know you’re up there crocheting the clouds with yarn so fine and reminding us all to surrender to the flow.
