Graveside services for Rubert "Gene" Nobles Jr. 80, of Griffin who died Monday September 7, 2020 in Brightmoor Hospice in Griffin, will be held Thursday at 2 PM in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Cochran with Elder Franklin Bryant officiating. Gene fought a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease and more recent battle with cancer . He was born in Bryson City NC the son of the late Elder Rubert Eugene Nobles Sr. and Callie Morrow Nobles. The family moved to Bleckley County Georgia when his father went off to serve in World War II. Gene attended grammar school in Danville and Cary Georgia,graduated from Cochran High School Class of 1958. Shortly after graduation Gene enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He completed bootcamp at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center in Chicago Ill. Gene chose the missile field and was assigned to training at Dam Neck, Virginia. Gene and Patricia Smith were married on September 25, 1959. Gene was assigned to Charleston SC. He completed his four year Navy assignment in June 1962. Gene had a successful career with the federal government beginning with USMC Supply Depot in Albany Ga. followed by forty three years with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). During his career with the FAA, Gene held positions in Florida, Tennessee, Georgia, Oklahoma, Washington D.C. and Massachusetts. At the time of his retirement from the FAA in 2001 Gene held the position of the New England Region's Airway Facilities Division Manager in Massachusetts. After retiring from the FAA, Gene accepted a position with BAE Systems in Washington DC as Director of Radar Systems. After retiring from BAE in 2005, Gene and Patricia returned to Griffin Ga. Gene was dedicated to building a successful career , he was even more dedicated to his family. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed when the extended family vacationed together at locations such as Myrtle Beach, SC, Bryson City NC and Bogle Farms in Greenville Ga. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of sixty-one years Patricia Smith Nobles of Griffin and their children; Gina (Ricky) Rowland ,Mike (Sybille) Nobles, Wanda (Sanford) Brown, Wendell (Setsuko) Nobles, and Sheila (Bryan) Morens; 9 grandchildren; Daniel Rowland, Meghan Brown, Christina Nobles, Yuji Inaba, Alan Nobles, Justin Nobles, Kaili Morens, Cameron Brown and Malia Morens; 2 great grandchildren Heidi Rose Rowland and Kaiden Smith. He is also survived by a brother Kermit Nobles Sr.; uncle Harold Lee Nobles; aunts Mary Nobles and Jean Lavato. Gene was preceded in death by a grandson Brian J. Kubarski.
