Funeral services for Mrs. Virginia Stokes Pritchett, 100, of Cochran, who died on Thursday, December 12, 2013, at the Medical Center in Macon, will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, December 15, 2013, at Bethany Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Pritchett was a native of Bleckley County, living there all of her life. She was the daughter of the late Grover Cleveland Stokes and Julia Mae Crumpler Stokes. She was the widow of Algia P. Pritchett. She was the oldest member of Bethany Baptist Church and was the oldest graduate of Cochran and Bleckley County public schools. She served in many phases of leadership at Bethany Baptist Church, as well as the Divisional V.P. of the Woman's Missionary Union of Georgia for five years. She was a member of the Ruth Sunday School Class. On September 15, 2013, she celebrated her 100th birthday with a host of family and friends. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Olgia Hamrick and Jewell Taylor and brothers, Oliver Stokes and Otis Stokes. Survivors include: children, Dr. Jerrell Pritchett of Lawrenceville, Doris Culverhouse of Cochran and Clifton (Nancy) Pritchett of Hawkinsville; six grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Annette Pritchett Stokes of Cochran. She had many dear nieces and nephews. The family will be at the home of Doris Culverhouse, Daisy Adams Road, and will meet friends following the service at the church. Flowers will be appreciated or contributions may be made to Bethany Baptist Church.
