Rev. Wyndell W. Hamrick Sr.

Rev. Wyndell W. Hamrick, Sr, 87 of Cochran GA, went to be with his Lord early Saturday morning, January 22, 2022. He was a resident of the Heart of Georgia Nursing and Rehab, Eastman, GA and a member of the First Baptist Church in Cochran GA. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 24, 2022 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Fisher Funeral Home in Cochran, GA. Rev. Clyde Evans and Rev. Larry Wilbanks will officiate. Burial will be private in the Limestone Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the chapel following the service. Rev. Hamrick was born in Cochran, Ga to the late Emmett Willard Hamrick and Olgia Stokes Hamrick. He graduated from Cochran High School in the class of 1952 where he was a Beta Club member. Upon graduation, he continued his education at Middle Georgia College where he earned an associate degree. He briefly attended Mercer University. In 1956, Wyndell had to give up a new 2 door Ford automobile and place his sweetheart, Edna Carrol on hold because Uncle Sam came calling. Upon his honorable discharge, Wyndell returned to Cochran, went to work and married Edna Carrol. The newlyweds moved to Cordele where he was employed as a cracker salesman for NABISCO. It was during this time that he felt the calling to become a preacher. He was ordained in Northern Heights Baptist Church by Rev. Lanier Beasley in 1966. Believing that he needed a little more education, Rev. Hamrick moved his family of five to the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. As a student, he served as interim pastor of a small country church in Topeka, Mississippi. After graduation, Rev. Hamrick became the associate pastor for Green Acres Baptist Church, Smyrna, GA. His first full time pastorate was for ten years at Smyrna Baptist Church in Vienna, GA. Followed by: Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Pineview, GA, Faith Baptist Church in Cochran, GA, Pleasant View Baptist Church in Pineview, GA, Corinth Baptist Church in Hawkinsville, GA. Rev. Hamrick also served the following churches as interim pastor after he retired from full time ministry: Harmony Baptist Church in Unadilla, GA, Salem Baptist Church in Cochran, GA, Macedonia Baptist Church in Cochran, GA and DuBois Baptist Church in Cochran, GA. He enjoyed helping Edna Carrol finishing carpentry work on their home and gardening. He was a retired bus driver for Bleckley County School System. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Rev. Hamrick is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Edna Carrol Hamrick and a daughter, Tina Denise Hamrick. He is survived by his children, Wyndell (Jan) Hamrick, Jr., Vienna, GA, and Sherri Hamrick (Roy) Hart, Cochran, GA, his sister Janice H Jones, Cochran, his grandchildren Holly (Clint) Taylor, Macon, GA, Johnathan Hamrick, Atlanta, GA and Jana (Ken) Smith, Cordele, GA, His great grandchildren Alex Long, Macon, GA and Rhett Smith, Cordele, GA, and many nieces and nephews. The family requests for those desiring to make memorial contributions please give in memory of Rev. Hamrick to the Gideon’s International and to the Georgia Baptist Children’s Home.
